This weekend we celebrated. We laughed. We reflected. And most importantly, WE GOT AWAY! Thank you Jesus for the open road and a break from the routine!
We made a quick get away trip down to South Carolina and left our worries behind. We stayed at a hotel in downtown Greenville—which I had no idea was so incredibly adorable! It was so fitting (given our love for treasures and treasure boxes) that we ended up in a scavenger hunt through downtown.
A mouse scavenger hunt! Scattered all throughout Main St. are mouse statues. The Mouse Hunt is based on the book “Good Night Moon”. Nine mice in the book, and you guessed it nine mice in downtown Greenville.
That’s me with Mother Maggie Mouse, wife to Father Marvin (previously pictured). As you can tell, I was really excited about these mice! They were actually pretty challenging to find. My competitive nature would not let me quit and thanks to Matthew’s good eyes we spotted all nine!
Another thing I loved about downtown Greenville were all the water falls and fountains. In the picture above we saw a stone wall with cascading waterfall. You’ll never guess what was behind the wall? One incredibly fancy….public restroom? Yup, a fancy public restroom. Maybe it’s appropriate given all the running water in this town?
Our hotel also had a beautiful indoor/outdoor water fountain as well, but I forgot to snag a picture. It’s truly amazing how water can transform an atmosphere. Everything was so peaceful!
To top it all off was Falls Park, and INCREDIBLE public park in the Arts District of downtown and within walking distance of our hotel.
We walked across a HUGE pedestrians only bridge and saw THIS amazing view.
Later, as we walked to the trails of the park we found this amazing tree. We were awestruck by the depth and size of the roots.
Side note (skip ahead if you’re allergic to tree symbolism): Thinking back, I guess marriage is a little like the roots on a tree. When cared for properly, strong roots develop that provide an anchor in the storms and nutrients during the drought. Our prayer is that our marriage would be rooted firmly in love for one another and more importantly a love for Christ.
And finally…
During our dating years we took several photo booth pictures. This anniversary I decided to bring back the tradition. Hopefully we can reveal a new photo booth picture for each anniversary.
Happy 2 Years! Year 3 here we come…
And in case you missed it, my meager 1st anniversary post is here.
